Writers Movement Member: JadaRae

JadaRae (not her real name) was born in March of 1974, in Willingboro, New Jersey.

Her father was a manufacturing engineer by day and a saxophonist by night. Her mother was a stay-at-home mom who made sure that JadaRae and her youngest sister stayed on the straight and narrow. Her mother is now a published poet, and her father is retired but still tootin' that horn.

JadaRae and her sister are both singers and musicians, but JadaRae began to dabble in writing. After she got into trouble by her fifth grade teacher, when she wrote a story that... well let's just say that the teacher called her parents, she was addicted to writing ever since that day.

JadaRae's claim to fame in high school was the fact that she could write stories for other students. The girls loved to have stories written about them and their crush for the moment. JadaRae would often find herself in trouble for writing stories, and not what was on the chalk board. When she entered college after graduating in 1992, she took a creative writing class. Her teacher said that she had a "Terry McMillan" vibe, which was a huge compliment to JadaRae who was only 18 at the time.

She continued to write throughout college, until she stopped writing in 1996, blaming it on a real bad case of writer's block. When JadaRae became pregnant with her first and only child in 2001, her mother told her to get back on the ball. JadaRae’s creative juice started flowing again, and by the time her daughter was three, she had published two short stories and one novel. She refuses to let other people dictate what and when she should write. She was once told that if she writes it... they will read it. So she continues to write.

JadaRae is also a musician, singer, producer, and dabbler of web and graphic design.

Writers Movement Member: Marilyn Venvenutti

Marilyn was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York but currently resides in Marietta, GA. Creativity has always been a staple in her life even, as early as 6 years of age when she enjoyed writing stories and creating fashionable clothing for her dolls. With that in hand, her first love became making clothing and as a teen and well into her early adult years, she embarked on her journey by making original designs for her friends and neighbors. Later, Marilyn was employed by McGraw-Hill Book company where she worked closely with many authors through the various stages of getting their work published. Continuing to design clothing during this time which included bridal and evening gowns for clients, she managed to obtain a degree in Fashion Art and Design from New York City's FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology). Marilyn has been in the business as a fashion and interior designer since the mid 80's. Since then she has only written for self satisfaction and enjoyment until September of 2008. Writers Movement Member: Naomi Webster

Naomi and I have been friends on facebook for about a year now. I love Naomi! She is what I like to call a "Smooth and Classy modern day Maya Angelou." The way she formulates her words are amazing and I think HIGHLY of her as a writer. It intrigues me the way she weaves and flows her words together. From the moment you begin to read one of her poems or short stories, you begin to feel something within your soul move in a melodic way. I'm glad that Naomi decided to become a WM member because her gift and craft with words is one of the many epitomes of a very talented unknown writer that deserves recognition and praise. I have included Part 2 of one of her many short stories,His Victim. If you would like to read the rest of this short story and all of her other works, check them out on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/#!/note.php?note_id=433555025967

"He was not mentally prepare for this..... She was welcoming his attack. She gazed upon him with such admiration that he felt compelled to run away. Kimberly can sense that the attacker was no longer interested. What can she do to move him to complete her mission of demise? She started to squirm and moan but to no avail. He had already grasped that she was in a different zone.

Holding her roughly, he whispered in her ear, "What is your purpose for me?"
Kimberly, confused by the question, responded, "I need you to end the worries that perplex me so. I need to escape the agonies that has held me a prisoner."
He sighed in her ear and said, "I can do exactly what you request but it must be done my way. No exceptions."
Kimberly nodded her head.

He walked her to his vehicle. In his mind, he felt like leaving her at Limp Hill. The thrill and desire had fled from his heart. There is no desire in doing such a brutality if one is willing to submit to it. However, he couldn't help but look at the beauty she possess. Maybe this might be the act that change sexual brutality forever. To have a woman crave brutality and not fear the demise that goes along with it. He thought of the scars that he would put on her face and neck. He thought of the bruises that would come from the applied pressure to her skin. He thought of the coarse sex that would be involved. How much it would hurt her when she discovers that deep down inside she really does not want it. And how she would squirm at all the advances that he would make.

Kimberly is sitting next to him in the car and is silently thanking God for this opportunity. She is ever grateful to have someone collaborate with her mission. She thinks about the scars and bruises he would mark on her. The applied pressure to her skin. The rough, harsh, and sharp sex that is to occur. The thought of it brings instant gratification. She is aroused. She desires it. She is anticipating what he has in stored. She is projecting that her finale would be of mere pleasure not of fatal brutality. She would die having her wish granted in every way imaginable. She knows that he is hunting for a female that is resistant and opposed to this act but her hunger is for this man to demoralize her.

As the vehicle stops in front of his house, he took a pocket knife and slashed her across the face. She screamed, not of pain, but of fulfillment. He saw the blood immediately surface her face. It made his anatomy hardened. He pulled her out of the vehicle with such great force that she almost pleaded to enforce more pressure. She had to remind herself that her body language must show resistance. But her mind and heart is craving for the brutality. As they enter the house, he slowly slice her neck. His heart feels excitement as he hears the ripple of her skin. She is loving it more and more but she is cautious not to show excitement".....

Writers Movement Support System

Good Afternoon everyone. I just wanted to blog up a post really quick to specifically address the bottom line reason why Writers Movement was created.

Writers Movement was created for writers and aspiring authors that work really hard daily to make their writing dreams a reality. There are so many talented writers out here, many of which don't receive the recognition that they deserve. I figured if a writers community was created where the main goal is to find, acquaint, support and promote these writers, then we will all be able to get the buzz we need/want. Writers Movement is not about self, yes we do have our own agendas and work to see to, but when we band together that's when our focus is shifted on helping our fellow members in whatever way we can. Whether it's an uplifting word, resources, shared knowledge/experience, posting links to our respective websites, or just spreading the word about Writers Movement as a whole.

If you have joined the Writers Movement website at www.writersmovement.webs.com then you are considered an official member. I encourage all members to send each other a friend request, friend each other on FB and twitter, chat occasionally, read each others work, visit each others websites and really get to know each other as writers/authors/entrepreneurs. This is the only way we can be able to know the current projects that are being worked on and finding out how we can support those projects. Send donations, purchase a book, spread the word about our fellow members but we can't do this without knowing who is within our community. This is very important because when the outside world can see how strong and supportive we are amongst each other, then before you know it, you will begin to receive support from others that you would have never imagined.

So with this being said, our next chat is August 7th 2010 and I would like all members to be in attendance, only if it doesn't conflict with any prior engagements or responsibilities for that day. I want us all to just have a casual chat, talk about who we are as writers, our goals and current projects. Please be there if you can make it but in the mean time, reach out to each other and network, network, network.

Writing Challenge Topic: So you say you're a writer? Use these words

Writers Movement had yet another great and interesting chat this Saturday. Author Benjamin Jones was interviewed on his re-launched novel H.U.B. along with questions about him as a writer/author. If you missed the chat, you can find the transcript in the blog post below.

The writing challenge is to use the words assume, discourage, profession, atheist, exhilarate, and perseverance in a 200 word dialogue effectively giving a scenario of your choice. The submission deadline is August 7th 2010 which is the date of our next writers movement chat. Email your submissions to writersmovement@gmail.com and your submission will be posted on both the blog and the WM website. See you August 7th.

New WM member: Author-Editor Kimani Nelson

Writing has always been an escape for Kimani Nelson. Devout Christian, mother of two boys, and nursing student, has known she wanted to write books since she turned the last page of "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" when she was 9 years old. After that she wrote to reinvent the world the way she understood it or the way she wanted to see it. At the age of 11 she penned her first novel "Yours, Until the End of Time." That book was only published for close family and friends to view. However, 17 years later, her debut novel will be published. She couldn't feel more blessed.

She began freelance editing after cringing from reading one too many typos in a novel. Her love of literacy prompted her to create Perfectly Polished Words Editing. She strives to offer top quality editing at rates sensitive to writers' publishing budget.

Kimani is currently working on a novel titled "Consider Your Ways" I have included a synopsis of the book. If you would like to know more about Kimanis' editing business, visit http://www.facebook.com/pages/Syracuse-NY/Perfectly-Polished-Words-Editing/114184155294964?ref=nf&__a=21&for rates and submission guidelines.

"There comes a time in life when you're forced to stop merely existing and start fully living. All work and no play made Shatima Robinson's struggles through single parenthood more nontraditional than most. Being born to a mother who thought her beauty could buy her way through life & a father she was denied access to even beyond his untimely demise left her wanting so much more for her own child. Love was something she had to teach herself. She focused on giving her son what she was denied as a child, what she owed him, & what he was missing from an absent father whose identity was going to the grave with her.

Loving only on her son works just fine until Rahshaan Bailey, a hustler from her building, refuses to be just another face that she passes by. Learning who she is excites & intrigues him. He knows the truth about her father, but he also sparks unneeded attention from the police. She forces herself to shut him out. But when her son's father resurfaces, Shatima realizes just how valuable having a man like Rahshaan in her life really is. And being with her makes him want to be better."

New WM Member: VOTE FOR LISA KOOSIS

I met Lisa K on facebook through NetworkedBlogs. She immediately came across as a sweet gentle spirit that has a deep passion for writing so I invited her to become a Writers Movement member. She obliged instantly and showed how appreciative she is for what Writers Movement is contributing to for other writers like herself. Lisa's short fiction has appeared in a number of publications, including Susurrus Press’s Neverlands and Otherwheres anthology, Abyss & Apex, The Dunesteef Audio Fiction Magazine, Murky Depths, Not One of Us, and Meadowhawk Press’s Touched by Wonder anthology. In 2009 she finished in the top 100 in Amazon.com’s Breakthrough Novel Award competition, and was the grand prize winner of the Family Circle Short Fiction Contest. She lives in New York with her family and cat, Salem's Lot, who she says often lives up to his name.

Lisa K is currently in a contest and she is asking for as much support as she can to help her win. The basics of the contest are this: Fresh Blood is an international fiction contest sponsored by Dorchester Publishing, ChiZine Publications, and Rue Morgue Magazine. Her book is one of two finalists competing for the grand prize of a publishing contract with both Leisure Horror (mass market paperback) and ChiZine Publications (limited hardcover run).

It takes only a few seconds to vote. It's as simple as sending a blank email to freshblood@chizinepub.com with Fresh Blood Vote - Heart of the City in the subject line.

I promise you it really only takes about 5 seconds top to send in your votes. I voted for her twice through both of my emails and I would like for you to do the same. If you want to learn more about Lisa K, visit her blog at http://writingonthinice.blogspot.com/

Writers Movement Member: Author Danielle Leach

Danielle and I met on facebook through my fan page. After becoming friends, we took the time to chat occasionally and I feel like I have personally known her for quite some time now. Danielle speaks words of encouragement and knowledge as she possesses a calming spirit of a woman that has been conditioned and molded by the love and favor of God. Danielle received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Florida State University and aspires to further her studies in the field to achieve a PhD in Clinical Psychology. She is known as a role model in her community by volunteering her free time to help those in need of counsel and mentoring.I took the time out over these last few months to read her writings and excerpts of her upcoming biography, American Dreamer, which is due to be released in December 2010. Her book is filled with so many inspirational quotes and I know that she is going to effortlessly bless the world with the musings of her noted life experiences and transformation. If you want to learn more about Danielle, you can check her out at the Writers Movement website or her books' website at http://www.americandreamerbook.com/. I have included a few of her books' insights so that you may get a peek into the mind of an inspirational woman, writer and role model.

“Are you not convinced that your PURPOSE is to live and to LIVE is to fulfill your purpose? Dreams are merely visions waiting to happen.”

"Faith sees what the naked eye can’t see. What appears impossible to the naked eye has already been called into existence to those who have Faith. The naked eye only SEES the mountain. Faith MOVES her out of the way."

"The secret to happiness is simple. Just accept yourself and find an appreciation for life."

New WM member: Author Chrishawn Simpson

I had the pleasure of becoming friends with Chrishawn on facebook about a week ago. She introduced herself after I accepted her friend request, which anyone hardly does, and seemed very warm and kind. She wanted to know about my writing and I was equally curious about hers. After reading about 3 of her excerpts from her now released novel, Broken Spirit, I immediately knew that I wanted to support her in any way I could. I was very excited for her to hear that her novel was released on yesterday, July 5th 2010, and I immediately reached out to her in wanting to help expose her work. Broken Spirit is a must read for women of all ages and I strongly believe it is going to touch so many lives in so many ways. You can visit her website at http://chrishawnthewriter.com/ to read the novels' summary and excerpt and also to purchase your copy of Broken Spirit. I have included the summary below just to give you a quick glimpse into what the book is about. Many blessings to Chrishawn and her continuous journey of blessing the world with a story that needs to be told and embraced.

"An emotionally gripping story of a young girl turned young woman who suffered years of sexual, physical and emotional abuse at the hands of men she trusted. The outcome of enduring many years of such unspeakable abuse lead to an empty life filled with eating disorders, depression, anxiety, sleepless nights, drug abuse, and a suicide attempt.

Take a journey with Elle, the recipient of twenty-plus years of painful, earth-shattering, and mind-numbing abuse. Her road to recovery is a treacherous one. She is filled with many doubts, consumed with many fears and bogged down with a whole slew of insecurities. She is, in fact, just a shell of a woman. She is void of true emotion and holds on to the unearned guilt of her past. She can’t escape her mind or the evil men who have put her in this place of loathsome despair.

She dreams of a better life. She would kill for one. She knows there is a more positive way of existence, but she doesn’t know how to obtain it. She does everything she can to numb the pain so she doesn’t have to feel the hurt that runs so deep there seems to be no end. She can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel or the proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow because of the lurking shadows of her broken innocence that loom, not only in her background, but right in her path.

Broken Spirit…. A story so intriguing, so horrid, so raw it couldn’t possibly be true, but it is."

New WM member: Author Ronald S Barrios

Let's welcome Ronald Barrios AKA Just Rey to Writers Movement. We have been friends on facebook(Just Rey) and twitter(@ItzRey) for quite some time but it wasn't until today that we reached out to each other about his current mystery novel, Blood Drops. I took the pleasure in reading an excerpt today on his website and I was intrigued and drawn into it. I'm looking forward to reading the novel as a whole and writing up a review real soon. Check out the description of Blood Drops below and visit his website at http://www.reybooks.com/ for more information. We are glad to have him join the Movement and we are looking forward to building a supportive networked relationship with him.

"In Blood Drops Holly Richardson disappears and Rey is hired by her husband, Phillip, to find her. But right from the start of the investigation he learns there is more to the case than meets the eye. There's infidelity, deceit, and ultimately murder. Throw in a Mob hit man named Mr. Oliver and a gang war waiting to erupt and you have a fast paced roller coaster ride of an adventure with an explosive showdown between Rey and Mr. Oliver. Every new clue raises more questions and everyone has something to hide; some are willing to kill to keep these secrets hidden. The only way for Rey to get to the bottom of this mystery is to follow the Blood Drops."

New WM member: Author Dianne Rosena Jones

I have had the pleasure of meeting Rosena through twitter(@dijones247) and facebook(Dianne Rosena Jones). I also had a opportunity to read and review her upcoming book, Tragic Treasures: Discovering Spoils of War in the Midst of Tragedy. Below is my review of her book and also Rosena as a wonderful individual. Also, she will be spotlighted next week on the writers movement website and blog so make sure you check back in to get a deeper insight on her current projects. Bless!

"Rosena is the epitomized definition of a "survivor." Though she has struggled for many years with hidden "skeletons in the closet" she decided to listen to the voice of the Divine Spirit and share her triumphs and pain with the world. Her "self help" story is guaranteed to touch the lives of many while giving us the motivation to re-evaluate our struggles, see past the pain, and understand that God's love and will for us all can bring us out of anything. I was deeply moved with the ability to relate to her journey. Her story has truly blessed and inspired me in many ways. I would HIGHLY recommend this book for others to read in order to be spiritually blessed by the words of a woman that God has greatly blessed with love, wisdom and knowledge. Blessings!"

Author Benjamin Jones and Artist Justin Taylor Graphic Novel Re-Launch

Ben Jones and Justin Taylor re-launched their graphic novel, H.U.B. Humanity's Ultimate Battle Volume 1 on 7/2/2010. I would encourage everyone to visit the novels' website at www.whatishub.net to download your FREE copy today! I must say that I was never a fan of vampires but H.U.B. has introduced me to a new liking for vampires in a different light. This novel is filled with action, fear, blood gushing, political views and illusions that will make you scrutinize the way we view those that surrounds us. I was hooked from the beginning and really didn't want the story to end. This isn't your typical vampire blood sucking story. If you are bitten, you were ripped to shreds, broken in half and only your limbs were left to be identified by family members. It is set in a modern day society so it gives you a sense of a possible "true" reality. If you are into vampires, this is a great book to check out. Even if you aren't, like I was, I guarantee your mind will be changed. So visit the site and download your copy NOW!!
