H.U.B. Volume 1 Deluxe Edition Re-Launch 7.2.10

The re-launch of H.U.B. Volume 1, the first in a series of illustrated novels from writer Ben Jones and illustrator Justin Taylor, is set for it's re-launch on 7.2.10.

Set in the not too distant future vampires, long considered myth and the stuff of entertainment, have been discovered to be real and have made themselves known to the world, thrusting themselves out of the shadows and into a society where they live right alongside humans. A rogue faction has arisen and is threatening to break the fragile truce that exists and thrust the world into a war between humans and vampires. Mirroring elements of present day society, the world of H.U.B. is unlike anything you have ever read and encompasses many levels that we all deal with - politics, fear of the unknown, acceptance, love, etc...

H.U.B. Volume 1 will be available as a FREE download at www.whatishub.net (paperback available for $7.99) and will also be available at Amazon.com (Kindle version), through Lulu.com and via the ibookstore for the iPad. Also included are excerpts from 2 members of the Writers Movement, a group of authors who have banded together to help promote, educate, and support each other as we try to make a name for ourselves in this publishing game.

Tell your friends and family about H.U.B. and be sure to visit www.whatishub.net on 7.2.10 and download your free copy! Also, be on the lookout for H.U.B. Volume 2 - release date is 10.29.10!

Effective Diction Use: Abstract vs Concrete

Today's chat was to re-introduce Abstract diction vs Concrete diction and how it plays a major role in our writing today. We learned how to take a simple sentence such as " the dog jumped on my car" and make it more concrete like "The dog with mangy yellow fur jumped on my tiny Prius and snarled, saliva dripping from his jagged teeth" This appeals more to the senses of our readers and keeps them engaged while creating a mental movie.

The writing challenge for this week is to create a story as short or long as you want in 1st or 3rd POV using the picture below. The challenge is to focus primarily on using concrete specific diction and less abstract. Make it interesting, vivid and alive!

Join us next week...Same time Same place! The movement ;-)

Writing Challenge Submission by Gabrielle Rice

The Voice of the Night: Why She Writes

By Gabrielle Rice

She writes fiction to right the world. What she doesn’t like in reality she changes it in her writing. Romance, mystery, sex, crime, injustice are revealed through her creations. Sometimes there’s a happy ending, yet sometimes there is not. Pain and woes is what makes fiction fascinating and exciting to write.

She takes the opportunity to expose wrongs in the free world. Writing is more than a hobby; it’s a privilege. By carefully researching topics to aid in exposing the harsh truths, she gains and holds credibility. Justice and exposing is the name of the news game. To inform and educate is a joy. Yes, writing is hard work, but the end justifies the means. The voice says, “It is worth it. It is worth it.”

It’s an opportunity for her to express feelings in a boisterous world that can’t hear her verbally. She writes to establish mental balance. She writes to reflect moods and hidden hostilities. For without writing, she would cry and die. Let her live to see another day with sunshine and rain. No money and no luck she writes on because it is in her heart and soul. She might not be the best writer, but she has an individual voice that must get out at night. The voice must get out and face the dark world. If the voice doesn’t get out at night, then she will lay someone out by day.

Writing Challenge Submission by Tiffanie Minnis

This is Why She Writes

By Tiffanie Minnis

It was something about the way she was able to put melodic sounds and words together that made her heart palpitate with an inexplicable rush. Once those head phones were on and the beat pumped through the speakers that covered her ears, she was no longer Tiffanie. She was First Lady. First Lady had no fear. She was tough as steel with an ability to capture the attention of many by the words that flowed from the crown of her head and out of her mouth. The feeling that came along with goose bumps every time a sixteen bar verse was written and recorded made her know that her talent of writing was a gift she would embrace and exploit in many forms.

Writing is her form of mental escape. It’s her way of having an excuse to transform into her audacious alter ego and say things that are considered forbidden by the laws of the land. Her combination of being a LEFT handed LIBRA takes her creativity to a level that leaves the mind of others in a lingering boggled state. This is what she enjoys most about her gift. Being able to pierce deeply into souls and connecting with them through her words.

When it’s hard for her to explain her feelings, she picks up a pencil and college ruled paper and effortlessly writes out the emotion that bothers her. Spoken word has no edge over her written words. This is how she connects with the world. This is how the world gets a glimpse into who she really is. She writes because it gives her peace of mind. It stabilizes her thoughts so that the right decisions are made. She writes so that her words are therapeutic to her readers. She writes because it is her calling.

Writing Challenge Submission by Benjamin Jones

Why He Wrote

By Benjamin Jones

He wrote because it gave him power. He felt like a magician using his words to create new worlds and people, making them do anything and say whatever he wanted. Writing gave him the power to correct past mistakes to where he no longer had to wonder about what if – he could now make it a reality, if only on paper. He could go back in time if he chose to the place where he parted with the love of his life and rewind things to make them right. Tears would be replaced with flowers and the miles between them substituted with kisses.

He wrote because he knew that he was good at it. He took comfort with a pen in his hand and a piece of paper in front of him – those things were a natural extension of him. He was an only child and, as such, was always the quiet type. It dawned on him that anybody could talk but it took much more to put those words on paper. You didn’t have to necessarily think to talk but, in order to commit those words to paper, that took dedication and purpose. He recognized the power of the written word and how it could touch so many lives and possibly change the world.

He wrote for therapy, for the peace of mind that writing something beautiful brings. He wrote for the love of writing. It was powerful to him.

Authors and Writers Bloggers Meet & Greet

I just left a Bloggers Meet & Greet meeting hosted by Dominique Watson, Founder of From a Writers POV. Everyone that was in attendance discussed the concepts behind their blogs and why others would find interest in following their blogs.

The first to introduce himself and his blog was Darryl Mims. Darryls' blog can be found and followed at www.writeoffusion.blogspot.com. Darryl blogs about various issues from sports, social topics and a collection of writing projects such as poems and short stories. I personally follow Darryls' blog and I must say that every post gives me a sense of every emotion that we possess. Don't believe me? Check him out for yourself!

Next up was Kandie. Kandie is what I call a Womanpreneur with multiple steels in the fire. Kandie is a freelance copywriter, creative writer, actor, entertainment columnist and graphic designer. Her work has been featured in The Dallas Morning News, Sacramento Observer, W.O.W Magazine and music publication Down Magazine. To learn more about Kandie, you can find information at http://www.kandiedelley.com, http://www.kandiedelley.com/dwo, http://www.kandiedelley.com/kandel

To close out the meeting, Dominique Watson talked about her POV lounge blog which can be accessed by going to www.thepovlounge.wordpress.com. She blogs daily for authors and writers that are a part of the POV community with literary advice and daily tips on the writing industry. She is also considered to be a Womanpreneur that is doing so many great things in the literary world. All Authors and Writers should check out her blog for resourceful information.

Just a quick snapshot of a great meeting. Be sure to check out these lovely writers. Leave a comment and spread the word. After all, it is a movement. Writers Movement. Blessings!
